4K, also called UHD, is 3840 × 2160 pixels: four times the detail of Full HD. UHD IPTV in Ireland only shows that extra detail when the TV and the device are both 4K.

HDR IPTV is a separate thing: HDR widens the colour and brightness range, and you only get it when the channel sends HDR and your TV supports it. Is 4K worth it for sport? On a big 4K TV, yes: shirt numbers, the ball and the crowd look clearer. On a TV under about 43 inches, or from the sofa across a large room, FHD often looks just as good and needs less broadband.

HEVC, also called H.265, is a newer way of compressing video. It packs a similar picture into roughly half the data of the older H.264 format, so HEVC IPTV stays sharp on a slower or busier line.

HEVC vs H.264 IPTV, in short: HEVC uses less broadband for the same picture, while H.264 (our HD and FHD versions) plays on almost every device ever made. Most TVs, Firesticks and phones from the last few years decode HEVC in their hardware, which keeps playback smooth. Older boxes may not, and then the HD version is the safe choice. If you share broadband with a busy house, HEVC is usually the best everyday pick.

Buying a 4K IPTV box in Ireland? As a guide, FHD needs around 15 Mbps, HEVC works well from about 8 Mbps and HD from about 5 Mbps. "Steady" matters more than the headline figure: a cable to the TV or a mesh Wi-Fi point beats a weak signal through two walls. Check if your line handles 4K.

If HEVC is not playing (black screen, sound only or a frozen picture), the app is usually using the wrong decoder.
