It's buffering right now. What's the quickest IPTV buffering fix?

Work down this list in order and stop when it plays smoothly. Most cases are fixed by step 3.

  1. Restart the router, then the deviceUnplug the router for 30 seconds, wait until it's fully back, then restart your Firestick or TV.
  2. Use a cable if you canA network cable to the TV or box beats Wi-Fi every time.
  3. On Wi-Fi, use 5GHzPick the 5GHz network (often ending "-5G") if the router is in the same or next room.
  4. Drop one picture versionSwitch the channel from 4K to HEVC, or from FHD to HD.
  5. Pause other streamsNetflix in the kitchen and a game download upstairs all share your line.
  6. Raise the player bufferIn your app's player settings, set the buffer to "large" or a few seconds longer.

Can you check if my Irish broadband is good enough?

Yes. Run a speed test on the device you watch on (not your phone), then fill in the details below. The check works out how much speed each screen really gets and which version to watch.

On a Firestick, a free app such as Analiti gives an accurate result. Test in the evening if that's when you watch, because speeds drop when the neighbourhood is online.

A guide, not a guarantee: Wi-Fi, walls and evening traffic change real speeds.

Why does IPTV keep freezing in Ireland? Is it my line, my device or you?

When IPTV keeps freezing in Ireland, there are four possible causes. A few simple tests tell you which one it is, and that tells you what to fix.

    1. Your connection

Sign: every channel stutters, and other apps like YouTube struggle too. Fix: cable or 5GHz Wi-Fi, fewer streams at once, or a lower version.

    2. Your device

Sign: it's fine on the phone but freezes on the Firestick or old TV. Fix: restart it, clear the app cache, free up storage, or use HEVC.

    3. Your app

Sign: sound but no picture, or one app freezes while another plays. Fix: switch the player or decoder in settings, or try a different app.

    4. The provider

Sign: one channel fails on every device and line, at the same time. Fix: try another version of that channel and message us; that's our job to sort.

If IPTV is not working at all, not just buffering, check the login details first; a typing slip looks like an outage. Our servers run on local Irish infrastructure with 99.9% uptime, so most freezes are fixed at home in minutes.

What internet speed do I need for IPTV, and for 4K streaming?

About 25 Mbps of steady speed for each 4K screen, 15 for FHD, 8 for HEVC and 5 for HD. Multiply by the number of screens watching at once.

    Speed needed per screen (guide)
    Version1 screen2 screens3 screens
    HD5 Mbps10 Mbps15 Mbps
    HEVC8 Mbps16 Mbps24 Mbps
    FHD15 Mbps30 Mbps45 Mbps
    4K25 Mbps50 Mbps75 Mbps

So the internet speed for 4K streaming on two TVs is about 50 Mbps, with headroom for phones and other apps. What internet speed do I need for IPTV in an ordinary home? 30 Mbps covers FHD on one screen and HD on another; 100 Mbps or more covers almost anything. The Mbps for 4K streaming matter less than steadiness: a 60 Mbps line that drops to 10 at night will buffer more than a steady 30. More on versions: 4K in every plan.

Why is IPTV freezing during matches, and why does IPTV buffer at night?

Because everyone is online at once. Saturday at 3pm, Champions League nights and weekday evenings are when home broadband is busiest across the whole street.

IPTV freezing during matches is usually that evening slowdown on your line, plus everyone in the house streaming at the same moment. Why does IPTV buffer at night when it's fine in the morning? Same reason: your provider shares capacity in the area, and 9pm is the peak. Run your speed test at the time you actually watch. If the evening figure is much lower, pick HEVC for big matches, use a cable to the main TV, and ask others in the house to pause downloads at kick-off.

Firestick Wi-Fi vs Ethernet: do I need an Ethernet adapter, and is 5GHz better than 2.4GHz?

For Firestick Wi-Fi vs Ethernet, a cable wins: it gives the full, steady speed of your line, while Wi-Fi loses speed through every wall and fights with neighbours' networks.

A Firestick has no network socket, so you need a Firestick Ethernet adapter. Amazon sells one, and third-party adapters that plug into the micro-USB or USB-C power port also work; check it matches your stick model. Smart TVs, Android boxes and MAG boxes usually have a socket built in.

On 5GHz vs 2.4GHz streaming: 5GHz is much faster at short range, so use it when the router is in the same or next room. 2.4GHz reaches further but is slower and busier. If neither works well, move the router to a central spot off the floor, or add a mesh Wi-Fi point or powerline adapters near the TV.

How do I fix IPTV buffering on a Firestick?

Start with a speed test on the Firestick itself, then free up its memory.

For a speed test on Firestick, install a free tester such as Analiti from the Amazon Appstore; it shows what the stick actually gets, which is often far less than your phone. IPTV buffering on Firestick is also caused by low storage and too many apps running: uninstall apps you don't use, clear the IPTV app's cache in Settings › Applications, and restart the stick once a week. Older HD sticks can struggle with 4K streams, so use FHD or HEVC there. Step-by-step: Firestick setup guide.

What about Eir, Virgin Media, Vodafone and Sky broadband buffering?

Whoever your provider is, the fixes are the same, because buffering is usually the home Wi-Fi rather than the provider's network.

    • Eir buffering: check whether you're on full fibre or part fibre (FTTC); part fibre slows with distance from the cabinet, so HEVC helps.
    • Virgin Media buffering: like any broadband, speeds can dip in busy evenings; test at that time and use a cable to the main TV.
    • IPTV buffering on Vodafone: the same checks apply; restart the router and use the 5GHz network close to the TV.
    • Sky broadband buffering: if the router is far from the TV, a mesh point near the TV usually solves it.

If every app and every site is slow, check your provider's service status page or call them; a fault on their side isn't something any IPTV service can fix.

Does IPTV work on NBI fibre, rural broadband, 4G/5G and Starlink?

Yes. NBI fibre streaming is excellent, because full fibre gives fast, steady speeds even in rural areas. Mobile and satellite lines work too, but pick HEVC.

    • NBI fibre: NBI fibre speed packages start well above what 4K needs, so 4K on several screens is fine with a cable or good Wi-Fi.
    • Rural broadband IPTV on fixed wireless: usually fine for FHD or HEVC; check speeds in the evening.
    • 4G broadband IPTV in Ireland: works for HD or HEVC on one screen; signal and data caps matter, so place the router by a window.
    • 5G broadband IPTV in Ireland: often fast enough for FHD or 4K when the signal is strong, but it varies through the day.
    • Starlink IPTV in Ireland: speeds are usually good, with short dropouts; HEVC and a larger player buffer smooth them out.

    Does a VPN stop buffering?

Usually not. A VPN sends your traffic through an extra server, which adds delay and can lower your speed, so it rarely helps buffering caused by Wi-Fi or a slow line.

The built-in VPN included with every pass is there for privacy, not speed. If buffering started after you turned a VPN on, turn it off and test again.

Still buffering. What should I send support?

Send us these five things on WhatsApp and our local team can usually find the cause in one reply:

    • Your device (for example Firestick 4K Max or Samsung TV)
    • The app you use
    • A speed test from that device
    • The channel and version (4K, FHD, HEVC or HD)
    • The time it happened

    Buffering questions

    Quick answers. Tap a question.

Why does my IPTV buffer only during live football?

Big matches are peak time for home broadband, and often for everyone in your house too. Test your speed at kick-off, switch to HEVC for the match and use a cable to the main TV.

Is 25 Mbps enough for 4K?

For one 4K screen, yes, if it's steady and the TV is on a cable or strong 5GHz Wi-Fi. For two 4K screens, you'd want about 50 Mbps.

Should I use Ethernet or Wi-Fi?

Ethernet whenever you can. It gives the full, steady speed of your line. If a cable isn't possible, use 5GHz Wi-Fi close to the router, or a mesh point near the TV.

    Does restarting the router help?

Often, yes. A restart clears a crowded memory and picks a quieter Wi-Fi channel. Unplug it for 30 seconds, then restart the TV or box once the router is back.

    Can mobile broadband handle IPTV?

Yes, on one screen in HD or HEVC with a good 4G signal, and often FHD or 4K on strong 5G. Watch your data allowance; 4K uses a lot.

Is buffering covered by the refund policy?

Buffering caused by your own internet, Wi-Fi or device isn't covered. An outage of 72 hours or more on our side is, within 7 days of purchase. See the refund policy.
